Why Us

If It Barks was started when Nicole Robbins was six. The company name and product was different, but the entrepreneurial drive and passion was ingrained. When she was six, Nicole had road-side sales in her front yard. Rather than opting for the typical lemonade stand, she held Snail Shell Sales and sold snails from the creek, flowers from the neighbor's yard, and various rocks and leaves she'd collected. Her neighbors were kind enough to buy - and this stuck with Nicole until she graduated college. Fresh out of school Nicole adopted two greyhounds (if you have a greyhound, you KNOW how hard it is to stop at just one). School taught her that the core purpose of business is to meet a need. The greyhounds taught her about the importance of the martingale dog collar. If It Barks went online on December 19, 2002.

Functional Design

Many of our customers use our dog collars and leashes for 2-5 years. We feel good about this because our mission is to bring style to active dogs without compromising functionality. Every product is washable and designed with comfort and longevity in mind. Whether he’s running, training, performing or sleeping, he shouldn’t have to compromise his style.

Customizable

If you don’t see something here that fits your need or your tastes, get in touch. We work one-on-one with clients to create designs tailored to you and the dog you care about. There is no extra design fee - it’s just good, old-fashioned service.

Quality Materials

We source high quality materials and we carefully design products that meet the needs of you and the dogs you love. If your collar should fail due to the hardware or construction, we'll replace.

Nicole Robbins - Owner and Creative Director

I LOVE color. And not just bold and saturated colors. I find beauty in the lightest and palest of colors. Standing in a fabric shop brings joy to me like a kid in a five-story candy store. The texture and movement of fabric and trims on my fingers gives me the giggles. If It Barks designs come from a peaceful place within that is inspired by nature - sea scapes, mountain views, desert hills - and by the details of nature - peacock feathers, ripples in the water and the color variations of a pecan shell. The design process begins here.

Amy Caliri - Seamstress Extraordinaire

I have to give credit to my mother for the creative drive and love of crafts that I have. She taught me to sew and more importantly taught me the value of doing it right the first time to produce a high quality product. I have a passion for crafts and love to design and create. My goal is that your barker will hold his head high and be proud to strut his If It Barks style.

Melissa Herboth of blustitch - Contributing Designer

I used to say to my mother “I want to do something creative.” Those were the days of unfinished craft projects when I ended up making more of a mess rather than actually completing a project… still, my desire to do something creative has never left my soul. I do get my fill of creativity daily as a professional graphic designer, but my more whimsical creative outlet has become quilting. I have always had a love for color, pattern and texture, but I think it’s the hands on and unique finished product that keeps me sewing and always creating new projects.
